Governor on official visit to the Netherlands

THE HAGUE - From September 11 to 26, 2024, the Governor of Curaçao, H.E. Lucille George-Wout, along with her delegation, conducted an official working visit to the Netherlands. The Governor, along with her counterparts from Aruba, Governor Boekhoudt, and from Sint Maarten, Governor Baly, attended the King’s speech on the occasion of Prinsjesdag.

On the eve of Prinsjesdag, the Governors collectively met with the King’s Commissioners from the Dutch provinces. Additionally, the biannual Governor’s meeting with the State Secretary for Interior Affairs and Kingdom Relations was on the agenda, marking the first such meeting with State Secretary Szabo. 

During the visit, introductory meetings were held with new ministers from the Schoof cabinet. Governor George-Wout had conversations with Prime Minister Dick Schoof, the Minister for Asylum and Migration Marjolein Faber-van de Klashorst, the Minister of Justice and Security David van Weel, the Minister of Defense Ruben Brekelmans, and the Minister of the Interior Judith Uitermark. She also met with the leader of the Farmer-Citizen Movement (BBB), Caroline van der Plas, and Member of Parliament Raoul White (GL/PvdA).

The Governor also visited the Council of State of the Kingdom, where she spoke with Vice President Thom de Graaf. At the Netherlands Court of Audit, she met with Ewout Irrgang, a member of the College of the Court of Audit.

Additionally, Governor George-Wout had an audience with H.M. King Willem-Alexander. 

As part of the program, the Governor participated in the unveiling of the new painting of the King for the Governor’s Palace, held at the “De Twee Pauwen” gallery in The Hague. The official unveiling of the King’s portrait will take place on December 13, 14, and 15, when the Governor’s Palace will open its doors as part of the 70th anniversary of the Kingdom’s Charter and the celebration of Kingdom Day.
