Government Working on Separate Plan to Resolve Pension Indexation Dispute

| By Correspondent March 9, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao government is preparing its own legislative proposal to resolve the long-running dispute over pension indexation, according to an advisory opinion issued by the Advisory Council.

The council noted that, in December 2025, several government ministers signed an agreement with pension organizations aimed at addressing the issue of pension increases outside the existing legal framework.

The agreement commits the government to introducing legislation that would formalize the solution and regulate pension adjustments under the law.

According to the advisory council, once such legislation is introduced, Parliament will have the opportunity to review and debate the government’s proposed approach.

The council therefore suggested that Parliament should allow the government time to present its own bill before proceeding with a separate initiative proposal currently under consideration.

This approach, the advisory body argues, would help avoid overlapping legislation and ensure that a comprehensive solution is adopted.
