Government to Accelerate Housing Projects for People with Intellectual Disabilities

WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN) has announced plans to accelerate the construction of additional housing facilities for people with intellectual disabilities, in response to long waiting lists at the SGR Group.

According to a press release, the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) has pledged 2 million guilders toward a new residential facility on Kaya Aron. The center will accommodate 24 individuals with intellectual disabilities and six people with severe autism. The total construction costs are estimated at nearly 5 million guilders. With the SVB contribution, the SGR Group will be able to secure a mortgage loan to cover the remaining expenses.

Ongoing Construction at Kas Amerigo Thodé

In addition, work has already begun on Kas Amerigo Thodé, another residential project designed for people with special needs. This facility is expected to be completed by June 2026.

The ministry emphasized that these initiatives are crucial to reducing waiting lists and ensuring that individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism receive appropriate housing and care in a timely manner.
