Government revises Lagun Beach design amid community concerns

Local | By Correspondent October 28, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The government has revised its design plans for Lagun Beach, incorporating more sustainable elements in response to community concerns. In a video shared on Facebook, the new design addresses the worries voiced by local residents and environmental activists about recent development proposals affecting Jeremi, Lagun, and Caracasbaai beaches.

Community members previously launched a petition to express dissatisfaction with the initial plans, which they feared could damage the natural environment, alter the beaches' unique features, and limit public access. While the government responded by unveiling a modified, eco-friendlier design, reactions on social media remain mixed. Some support the new approach as a marked improvement, while others argue that it still falls short of protecting the beaches’ natural character.

In the coming days, it will become clear whether this revised design is sufficient to satisfy public concerns or if further action will be necessary.
