WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning (VVRP) has launched a project to study traffic patterns along the Weg naar Westpunt, the main road leading to Banda Abou. The initiative was announced this week in a government press release.
Over the course of two weeks, traffic data will be collected at several key junctions, including the Zegu roundabout, Hato Airport, Juan Domingo, and Punda. The counts are designed to provide clearer insight into how traffic flows between residential areas, business districts, and tourist zones.
According to the ministry, the results will serve as the foundation for new measures aimed at improving the efficiency of Curaçao’s infrastructure, strengthening road safety, and ensuring that the critical route to Banda Abou is managed in a more sustainable and future-proof way.
The study is part of a broader government effort to address congestion and improve road networks across the island, particularly in areas that connect tourism hubs with local communities.
