Government Approves Budget Amendment for Expansion of Animal Welfare Facilities

Council of Ministers allocates funds for construction of additional dog shelters

WILLEMSTAD - During its meeting on Wednesday, October 15, the Council of Ministers approved an important decision related to national governance and animal welfare.

The government has agreed to a budget amendment to fund the construction of additional dog shelters as part of the ongoing Animal Welfare Project, coordinated by the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN).

The initiative aims to improve living conditions for stray and abandoned animals, expand shelter capacity, and strengthen Curaçao’s overall animal welfare infrastructure.

According to the government, the new facilities will help manage the growing number of stray dogs on the island and support ongoing efforts to promote responsible pet ownership and humane treatment of animals.

The project forms part of the broader government policy to enhance public health, environmental management, and community safety through sustainable animal welfare measures.
