Government announces decree for cheaper meat imports

Local | By Correspondent August 9, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao government has passed a decree that allows for the import of cheaper meat. This decision opens the door for imports from multiple countries, not just Colombia.

Until yesterday, there was a shortage of beef, pork, and other meat products from Colombia, leading to higher prices. With this change in legislation, the government hopes to stabilize meat prices.

The decree covers the import of meat, eggs, and dairy products. This measure responds to requests from supermarkets to allow meat imports from various countries to help reduce prices.

The decree clarifies that the import of livestock, meat, eggs, dairy, leather, and other animal products is regulated under livestock and meat legislation. This law stipulates that the import and transit of contaminated products can be prohibited or allowed under certain conditions.
