Google Translate adds new languages, including Papiamentu

WILLEMSTAD - Google Translate has expanded its language offerings to include Papiamentu, effective from Thursday.

Google Translate's system learns from existing translations, such as those available online or from official documents. This can be challenging for languages that have not been frequently translated online, like Papiamentu. To overcome this, Google collaborated with native speakers to integrate the language.

Approximately 250,000 people speak Papiamentu. For Bonaire, as a special municipality of the Netherlands, it is an officially recognized language within the country.
