WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN) has stated that it aims to establish a transparent agreement with public waste management company Selikor, but claims the company has still not provided sufficient cost data to support ongoing financial analyses. This was announced in an official press release from the ministry.
As part of efforts to better understand and regulate the waste management sector, the Government Audit Bureau (SOAB) has been commissioned by GMN to conduct a cost price analysis and a review of landfill fees. However, GMN reports that despite Selikor's expressed willingness to cooperate, the company has not yet submitted key financial data needed for the assessments.
Selikor, in response, has denied causing any delays, attributing the timeline to the complexity of the requested data. The company noted that the initiative for the cost analysis came from Selikor itself, and that it has been actively working on compiling the necessary information since receiving the request on June 12.
Additionally, Selikor highlighted ongoing uncertainty regarding the budget for cleaning services, which it says is already causing financial strain.
GMN, however, reiterated that negotiations can only proceed once all required information is fully delivered and verifiable. The ministry insists that accurate, transparent financial data is essential to ensure that public funds are used efficiently and responsibly in Curaçao’s waste management sector.
