WILLEMSTAD - Giselle Mc William, leader of MAN-PIN, has expressed her support for the union DOEN in their call for Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport (OWCS) Sithree ‘Cey’ van Heydoorn (MFK) to establish a commission aimed at improving teachers' legal status and salaries.
Mc William proposes that the commission include representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Department of Personnel and Organization (BPD), financial experts from the Ministry of Finance, and the union itself. She highlighted the critical role of education in shaping Curaçao’s future and voiced concerns about a growing trend of young professionals completing their studies abroad and not returning to the island.
“Low salaries, job insecurity, and the weak legal position of teachers are urgent issues that must be addressed at a national level,” Mc William stated. She urged the minister to make these challenges a top priority, emphasizing the need for swift and concrete action to support the teaching profession.
As a Member of Parliament, Mc William stressed the importance of investing in educators to ensure a sustainable future for Curaçao, aligning with the union’s efforts to strengthen the teaching profession’s foundation.
