Giro bank staff concerned about their future

WILLEMSTAD - The employees of the Giro Bank are concerned about their future. They complain that they do not know where they stand and demand clarity.

Many employees think that the bank will be taken over by the APC Bank of the General Pension Fund Curaçao. In that scenario, many Giro Bank employees fear to lose their job.

Next Thursday, the Court will consider whether the former director of the Giro Bank, Eric Garcia, can serve his sentence with a house arrest for even longer or whether he should return to prison.

The now 79-year-old Eric Garcia was sentenced to 4 years in prison last year. He also must pay back 19 million guilders. If he can't do that, he must remain behind bars for another three years. For medical reasons, he was placed under house arrest at the end of last year.
