Giovanni King, CEO Blue Nap Americas on World Telecommunications and Information Society Day 2024

Local | By Press release May 17, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - May 17, is a significant day for the world as it marks World Telecommunications and Information Society Day. This year's theme, "Building a sustainable future demands innovative thinking and action, especially in the digital world," resonates with our shared vision for the region's development.

On this important day, for those of us active in the eco-system, I wanted to share the following:

It is crucial to recognize the transformative power of digital technologies. Their effective use and implementation cannot only address various challenges outlined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also propel Caribbean countries towards achieving these goals. By leveraging digital solutions in areas such as e-gov, healthcare, education, agriculture, and environmental monitoring, we can make significant strides in our sustainable development journey.

Embracing innovative thinking and action in the digital realm can be pivotal for sustainable development in Curacao.

Robust digital Infrastructure enabling factor

Investing in robust digital infrastructure, including broadband networks and datacenters, is crucial. This infrastructure forms the backbone of digital connectivity, enabling businesses to operate efficiently, facilitating e-gov and e-commerce, and supporting government services such as e-health and e-education.

By encouraging innovation through supportive policies, startup funding, and fostering collaboration between academia, government, and the private sector, you can play a pivotal role in stimulating economic growth. Initiatives like tech hubs and incubators can nurture local talent and ideas, leading to the development of homegrown human resources, digital solutions, and services, thereby empowering Curacao to drive its own digital transformation.

Overall, prioritizing digital innovation and infrastructure can enable Curaçao to build a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future.

Happy WTIS 2024 to all organizations and individuals, that in one form or the other participate in the electronic communications echo system on behalf of Blue NAP Americas Staff and Management.
