Gilbert Ricardo Announces Departure from Politics

Local | By Correspondent March 26, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – Gilbert Ricardo has confirmed his departure from politics. During a press conference on Monday afternoon, he stated that the election results were clear and that now is the time for unity, not division. “The campaign is over, it is time to look ahead,” Ricardo declared.

Ricardo explained that he entered the political race with the belief that Curaçao could be improved. His motivation was to help the island, and he remains convinced that, as a parliamentarian, he could have contributed to Curaçao’s development. He specifically mentioned his campaign proposal to build 3,000 homes as part of his vision for the country.

He emphasized that his entry into politics was not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to make a meaningful impact on Curaçao. According to Ricardo, he possesses the skills to contribute to society in other ways.

Despite warnings from those around him to avoid politics due to the current tensions on the island, he chose to follow his heart. Ricardo stated that, as a young entrepreneur, he has built a successful career through determination and perseverance—qualities he also hoped to bring into politics.

Regarding the election results, Ricardo described the outcome as historic. He congratulated the MFK party and called on society to accept the results. “Now is the time for unity to move Curaçao forward.”
