GGD shuts down CNSJ food outlet over oysters

Local | By Correspondent September 3, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - During an inspection by the Department of Public Health (GGD) last weekend, a food outlet at the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival was temporarily shut down. The issue centered around the sale of raw oysters by the vendor. According to the GGD inspector, this method of sale was not permitted; all meals sold to the public must be kept above a certain temperature to prevent the spread of bacteria, as per regulations.

The vendor was instructed to immediately stop selling raw oysters or incorporate the shellfish into a soup. The inspector also mentioned that it would be futile to file any damage claims against the GGD.

After an hour and a half, the situation was resolved when the delicacy supplier was able to present a certificate of origin for the oysters.
