General Practitioners request urgent meeting with health inspection

Local | By Correspondent October 8, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The board of the Association of General Practitioners (CHV) has requested an urgent meeting with the Health Inspection regarding a recent directive. Last week, the inspection sent out instructions requiring general practitioners to make all medical documents of their patients available to the After-Hours General Practitioners Service (HAP).

The association expressed surprise at the letter, noting that they had already requested a meeting on this topic back in August but had received no response. According to CHV, providing full access to patients' medical documentation is not a common practice.

While the CHV board agrees that effective communication between general practitioners and HAP staff is crucial for ensuring the continuity and safety of care during evenings, nights, and weekends, they argue that full access to patients' medical documentation is unusual, even within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. They believe that such a requirement could conflict with national data protection laws and local agreements concerning medical treatment.
