General Pension Fund acquires office building in Zeelandia

WILLEMSTAD - APC, the General Pension Fund Curaçao, is the new owner of Zeelandia Office Park. This was confirmed by the APC spokesperson. It was bought some time ago, according to the spokesman.

The striking office complex on the corner of Schottegatweg Oost and Kaya W.F.G. 'Jombi' Mensing, surrounded by lawns, was realized by a private party in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Several prominent companies are housed there, including Ernst & Young, Intertrust Group, Banco Provincial and Blue Bank. Until recently, ZCC Investments nv was the owner of buildings and grounds. Edwin van Wilsum is director of this company, while Peter Hagenaars acted as property manager. ZCC Investments was founded in 1994.

The APC website shows that the restaurant, the former TuTu Tango, is currently for rent. This location is offered as 'extremely suitable for a restaurant function' that can offer breakfast and lunch during the day to the employees of the many offices and company buildings in the surrounding area.

The pension fund has not actively publicized the acquisition of Zeelandia Office Park, but according to the spokesperson, APC is making good progress and this is good for the economy of Curaçao. In the vicinity of Zeelandia, APC is also constructing a modern office building on the corner of Schottegatweg and Asteroidenweg. Delivery is scheduled for December 2021. APC also owns the former KPMG building along Emancipation Boulevard, which currently (temporarily) houses the Court of Justice.

The APC provides the pensions of approximately 22.00 public servants and former public servants, including approximately 10.500 pensioners. The fund invests the pension premium received locally and abroad. This mainly happens in bonds, mortgages, shares, but also in real estate.

At the end of 2019, the investment properties amounted to 134 million guilders. The publication of the APC annual figures 2020 is expected shortly.
