GCB revokes licenses based on complaints

Local | By Correspondent August 7, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Gaming Control Board (GCB) has the authority to revoke licenses based on complaints from other regulators, especially in cases of repeated or serious violations that affect the integrity of providers. The GCB itself cannot determine if foreign laws and regulations have been violated and will rely on the findings of foreign authorities in such cases.

GCB Director Cedric Pietersz states that over 700 applications for new licenses have been received under the new online gaming policy (LBH). The surge began in mid-March, leading to a peak in applications and necessitating increased capacity and optimization of the processing procedure.

The implementation of the National Ordinance on Gambling Taxes (LOK) may experience some delays, which means that enhanced enforcement capabilities cannot yet be fully utilized. However, the current policy remains in place to ensure a smooth transition to the LOK, Pietersz explained.

Pietersz further noted that with the introduction of the LOK, all existing master licenses will be terminated. There is a transitional arrangement ensuring that licenses are automatically converted into provisional six-month licenses, with the possibility of extension, provided they comply with the new regulations. The terms of licenses under the old law expire in August, and license holders must quickly demonstrate that they meet the LOK requirements.
