WILLEMSTAD - Gasoline prices will decrease by just over one cent on Tuesday. A liter at the pump will now cost approximately 2.16 guilders. This is reported by the Regulatory Authority of Curaçao (the RAC, formerly BTP&U) in its monthly report. The RAC monitors price developments of oil products and utilities.
In contrast, diesel prices will rise by just over ten cents per liter. Currently priced at nearly 1.69 guilders, it will increase to approximately 1.79 guilders.
The drop in gasoline prices is due to slightly cheaper purchase prices by Curoil. Conversely, the purchase price of diesel has increased compared to the previous month.
Electricity and Water
The price for a kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity will decrease by one and a half cents starting August 1. For the cheapest rate up to 250 kWh, consumers will pay about 65 cents, down from just under 67 cents. In the highest tariff group, the price will be around 76 cents, down from 78 cents.
Water will cost approximately 8.88 guilders per 1000 liters starting Thursday, which is nineteen cents less than the previous month. Large consumers using over twenty cubic meters will pay 17.93 guilders for consumption in the highest group, down from 18.12 guilders.
Production Mix
The decrease in electricity tariffs is the result of a higher utilization of the diesel-BOO plant in the expected production mix (diesel/solar/wind) and a lower correction factor for June.
The adjustment of electricity tariffs also includes an increase in the base rate by 0.0125 cents for each tariff group. This increase is partly due to higher costs and investments to ensure the stability of the electricity supply and to facilitate the implementation of more sustainable energy.
At the same time, there is a shift towards more economical fuels, which provides a larger offset than the increase in the base rate. The base rate for water remains unchanged.
The decrease in water tariffs is the result of lower electricity costs for water production and a lower correction factor for June 2024.
