Gasoline price increase by 3 cents, diesel remains stable

Local | By Correspondent July 31, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - Gasoline will increase by just over three cents per liter on Curaçao starting Tuesday. The gas station price will be 2.31 guilders, as announced by the regulator, Bureau Post en Telecom.

Diesel will remain virtually unchanged in price, at 1.61 guilders per liter. The difference is in the third decimal place.

The slight increase is due to a slightly higher purchase price on the world market and the introduction of the guarantee component.

In the fuel price, a component is included to ensure that there is a reserve to purchase fuel at all times. Due to earlier pre-financing, this component had been removed.

In the past month and the next two months, this component will be reintroduced, causing the liter price to increase by at least two cents every month.

The price for one kilowatt-hour of electricity will increase by two cents on Tuesday, August 1. The new price will be rounded to 66 cents, according to the Bureau of Telecommunication and Post.

This price applies to the first 250 kilowatt-hours. Those who consume more will have to pay more per delivered unit of electricity after the first consumption of those 250 kilowatt-hours. The next hundred kilowatt-hours will cost almost 77 cents, and those who consume even more will have to pay just over 81 cents per kilowatt-hour for that additional consumption.

Water prices will also increase. Starting Tuesday, one thousand liters will cost approximately 9.13 guilders. This represents an increase of approximately 18 cents per cubic meter for the first nine cubic meters.

The progressive tariff system also applies here, with the next tier priced at 14.28 guilders, up from 14.11 guilders. Those who consume more than twelve cubic meters will have to pay 16.22 guilders per 1000 liters for that excess consumption.
