WILLEMSTAD – Starting Tuesday, January 28, gasoline and diesel prices in Curaçao will rise. At the same time, electricity and water rates will decrease starting Saturday, February 1, as announced by the Regulatory Authority of Curaçao (RAC).
The price of gasoline will increase by just over two cents per liter, while diesel will rise by seven cents per liter. From Tuesday, motorists will pay 2.07 guilders per liter of gasoline, with diesel approaching the same price. The increase is attributed to higher international procurement costs for both fuels.
For electricity and water, RAC has indicated that prices will drop due to various factors. While there has been a slight increase in fuel costs for electricity production, this is offset by the removal of a component in the rates that has been applied since October 2024 to cover operational costs for the BOO power plant. As a result, the price of electricity will decrease by two cents per kilowatt-hour, with the lowest rate group now paying approximately 57 cents.
Water rates will also fall, with a decrease of 13 cents per cubic meter. In the lowest rate group, the cost for 1,000 liters will now be approximately 8.13 guilders. This reduction comes from lower electricity costs for water production and a positive corrective factor for December 2024.
