Gas Prices Drop While Electricity and Water Rates Increase on Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD – Starting Tuesday, April 29, fuel prices on Curaçao will decrease, while electricity and water rates are set to rise slightly as of May 1. This adjustment was announced by the regulatory authority RAC, which bases these changes on fluctuations in international energy prices and corrective factors from the past month.

The price for a liter of gasoline will decrease from over 2.08 guilders to just above 2.05 guilders. Diesel prices will drop slightly to just over 1.65 guilders per liter, compared to nearly 1.66 guilders in April, marking a difference of just over half a cent. The reduction in gasoline prices is mainly attributed to an adjustment in the so-called surplus-deficit component, while the slight decrease in diesel prices is due to a marginally lower purchase price.

Electricity and Water Rates

From May 1, electricity rates will increase slightly across all consumption segments. Households using up to 250 kilowatt-hours per month will now pay approximately 55 cents per kilowatt-hour, a rise of just over half a cent. Those consuming more than 350 kilowatt-hours will face a rate of just over 70 cents per additional kilowatt-hour.

Businesses, hospitals, and industries will also see a slight increase in their electricity rates. This increase is a result of a slight rise in the average fuel costs for electricity production and a higher corrective factor compared to March.

Water prices will also rise marginally. Households consuming up to nine cubic meters of water per month will see the rate increase from just over 8.14 guilders to over 8.20 guilders. The price increase varies by consumption category, but remains limited to only a few cents per cubic meter. This adjustment is primarily due to higher electricity costs for water production and a higher corrective factor.

These changes reflect ongoing adjustments to energy prices in line with global market shifts and local cost factors.
