Gambling industry absent from parliament meeting

WILLEMSTAD - The parliamentary debate that was planned for yesterday morning about the future of the gambling industry in Curaçao was suspended after just five minutes by the President of Parliament William Millerson.

Riferos (gambling bosses), Casinos and local banks were invited, but only the Fundashon Wega di Number Korsou (Curaçao Gambling Foundation) showed up.

Member of Parliament for the opposition party MFK Charles Cooper says that the Gaming Control Board regards the situation as "a lack of respect for parliament". He requested to adjourn the meeting and to invite these parties again to come to parliament.

The meeting has been adjourned until further notice.
