WILLEMSTAD - Forum for Democracy (FvD) has set its sights on the votes of almost 8,000 Dutch people in Curaçao for the first parliamentary elections. This is what NOS correspondent Dick Drayer says on NPO Radio 1, who attended the political meeting in Restaurant Rustiq on Monday.
Fvd wants to become big in the Senate, in order to block the passed laws. The party therefore hopes for support from Dutch people abroad. Party leader Thierry Baudet also wants Curaçao to become an economic zone, where Dutch entrepreneurs can get to work 'without rules'.
It is the first time that Dutch people who do not live in the Netherlands can influence the composition of the Senate. This is made possible by a special electoral college for non-residents. The elections will take place on March 15.
