THE HAGUE - Fundashon Ser'i Otrobanda did not win the Appeltjes van Oranje awards. The prize, a bronze statue and a cash amount of 25,000 euros, were awarded to three other initiatives, all from the Netherlands.
The winners that emerged are Ontmoetingswerkplaats JoJo, Vadercentrum Adam, and Stichting Ik wil. These initiatives can use the cash amount for the purpose they represent. This year's theme was 'Bridge Builders in the Neighborhood', focusing on connecting residents.
Fundashon Ser'i Otrobanda is an initiative that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, neighbors were distributing food packages to each other to lend a helping hand. They then decided to create neighborhood gardens so that residents can grow their own food. This also has an impact on increasing social interactions among the residents.
The awards were presented by Queen Máxima at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague.
