Fundashon pa Konsumidó Urges Curaçao Residents to Prepare for Hurricane Season

WILLEMSTADWith hurricane season now underway, Fundashon pa Konsumidó is calling on Curaçao residents to prepare their homes in advance to minimize storm damage. The consumer foundation has compared prices for 135 construction materials across six major hardware suppliers, helping the public plan their purchases wisely and avoid last-minute rushes.

The price comparison was conducted between May 20 and 28, 2025, at Kooyman Group, Gomez Enterprises, Ferreteria Schèrpènè, Dijtham, Building Depot, and Staal Antillen. The results show that Building Depot offered the widest selection, stocking 104 of the 135 items surveyed, and had the lowest price on 70 of them.

The organization stressed that storm damage is often caused by leaking roofs, unsecured roofing materials, and loose objects becoming dangerous projectiles. As a preventative measure, the foundation advises residents to inspect their homes for weak points and carry out necessary repairs early. This includes sealing gaps, securing roofs and windows, and clearing outdoor areas to prevent accidents and structural damage during strong winds.

The full price list is available on Fundashon pa Konsumidó’s website. The foundation encourages consumers to use the list to draft a personal budget, compare prices, and make informed decisions. The site also offers practical tips on disaster preparedness.
