Fundashon Bicentini Launches Second Edition of ‘From Street to Stadium’ Youth Project

WILLEMSTAD – This weekend, the Fundashon Bicentini will kick off the second edition of its social development project “From Street to Stadium.” Fourteen neighborhood teams from across Curaçao will take part in the nine-month street football competition, which officially begins on September 13 and 14.

Teams from Cas Grandi, Rio Canario, Brievengat, Groot Kwartier, Cas Cora, Welgelegen, Rooisantu, Weto, Fuik, Otrobanda, Montaña, Mahuma, Brievengat Pariba, and Oost-Jongbloed will all participate.

Sports Combined With Social Impact

“We combine athletic ambition with social vision. Our project gives young people opportunities both on and off the field, emphasizing values, community, and personal growth,” said project initiator Remko Bicentini.

The tournament is not about official competition but about fun, respect, and learning from one another. Young players will experience winning and losing, but most importantly, teamwork. The rules remain simple—pure street football without complex discussions like offside calls.

Fundashon ambassadors, including Tino Change, Rignald Hato, and Germaine Manuel, will help ensure the matches are fair and sportsmanlike.

Rewarding Positive Behavior

The project places a strong emphasis on community involvement. Through a bonus-malus system, teams earn points for positive behaviors such as punctuality, fair play, and contributions to their neighborhoods.

Neighborhood initiatives such as cleanup campaigns will be rewarded with extra points, while negative actions—such as verbal abuse or unsportsmanlike conduct—will be penalized.

Four Pillars of Development

The competition is built on four key pillars: football, community involvement, respect, and education. These themes will be highlighted during both the matches and special educational days, encouraging youth to reflect on their role within their families, schools, and neighborhoods.

“We want to teach children to take responsibility at home, at school, and in their community,” said Fundashon Bicentini ambassador Sharethsie Dometilia.

Free Participation, With Responsibility

Participation in “From Street to Stadium” is free, but teams are expected to honor commitments and actively contribute to their communities. Each team will receive uniforms and equipment to take part in the program.
