WILLEMSTAD - The Curacao government announced recently a levy of 2.3 cents on fuel. This applies for a period of four years.
The revenue from the charge covers the additional costs that must be paid during the so-called transition period at the refinery. Since 1 January this year, the government has been paying the costs for the refinery until the Klesch Group takes over.
According to Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath and Minister of Economic Development Giselle Mc William, the consequences of the tax on fuel are minimal for the economy and the population of Curaçao. For example, the introduction of the tax has no consequences for public transport, says Minister McWilliam.
