Fuel Prices Drop Again on Curaçao, While Electricity Edges Up and Water Becomes Cheaper

WILLEMSTAD – Consumers on Curaçao will benefit from lower fuel prices starting this week. The price of gasoline will decrease slightly from 2.05 to 2.03 guilders per liter, while diesel will see a more noticeable drop from 1.65 to 1.60 guilders per liter. According to the government, the decrease is mainly due to more favorable international purchase prices and a negative correction in the “surplus and deficit” component.

Prices for LPG gas cylinders remain unchanged. The 100-pound cylinder will still cost 56 guilders, while the 20-pound version remains at just over 11 guilders.

Electricity and Water

Starting June 1, the electricity rate for households will increase slightly. Households consuming up to 250 kilowatt-hours per month will see the rate rise from approximately 0.55 to nearly 0.56 guilders per kilowatt-hour. Similar increases apply to higher consumption categories and commercial users. The adjustment is linked to higher average fuel prices for electricity production recorded in April.

In contrast, water prices will go down. Households using up to nine cubic meters of water per month will now pay around 8.09 guilders per cubic meter, down from 8.20 in May. For moderate usage (between 12 and 20 cubic meters), the rate will drop from 15.30 to approximately 15.18 guilders per cubic meter. These reductions are made possible by lower production costs and a downward correction.

Monthly Adjustments

The Ministry of Economic Development sets tariffs for electricity, water, and fuel on a monthly basis, based on global market trends, fuel cost fluctuations, and domestic correction factors. The ministry emphasizes that these monthly adjustments aim to align household and business expenses as closely as possible with the current economic conditions.
