WILLEMSTAD – The Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) has revoked the permit of a fruit boat following repeated violations. During an inspection yesterday, a multidisciplinary team once again found that products were being sold without the proper authorization. The inspection took place at the Sha Caprileskade, where Venezuelan fruit boats primarily sell fruits and vegetables.
The inspection team included representatives from Customs, the Punda Neighborhood Team of the Curaçao Police Corps (KPC), the Economic Inspection Unit, Immigration Services, and the Coast Guard. The purpose of the inspection was to ensure that permit holders comply with the conditions set for their sales locations.
During the inspection of four fruit boats, prohibited products were once again discovered despite previous warnings. Confiscated items included 90 blocks of cheese, 10 kilograms of white cheese, a bag of salted fish, 25 packages of jam, five boxes containing 24 packets of tamarind candy each, and a jar of red fish.
Due to these repeated violations, the process to revoke the permit of the offending fruit boat has been initiated. The multidisciplinary team stressed the importance of fair trade and compliance with existing regulations. “We must ensure honest entrepreneurship where all vendors adhere to the rules,” stated the team.
