Free Pet Chipping and Sterilization Event Held in Zuikertuintje

Local | By Correspondent March 10, 2025

WILLEMSTAD – Many dog owners took advantage of the fourth "ban topa" event in Zuikertuintje on Saturday, where they had their pets chipped for free or scheduled sterilization appointments. The Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN) reports that despite the busy carnival season, a large number of people participated in the initiative, which was carried out in collaboration with Rescue Paws.

“Thanks to this project, nearly 2,000 dogs have already been chipped and sterilized,” said GMN. These chipping and sterilization efforts are part of the Proyekto Bienestar di Animal, which focuses on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.

In the coming weeks, GMN will visit areas like Brievengat and Schelpwijk, where they will provide education on pet identification and registration. The initiative will also address the Animal Welfare Act and regulations concerning dangerous dogs.

“The next free chipping event will take place on April 12th in Barber. Dog owners will once again have the opportunity to register their pets and schedule sterilization appointments,” GMN announced.

“With this campaign, we aim to reduce the number of stray dogs on the island and encourage owners to care for their pets responsibly,” added GMN.
