Free cat sterilization

Local | By Correspondent October 26, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - Kitten Rescue Curacao Foundation organizes a sterilization campaign for cats from November 2 to 9. The foundation holds sterilization campaigns more often because, according to them, the overpopulation of stray cats is large.

To tackle the cat problem, the foundation organizes actions to sterilize the cats with owner and stray cats. The foundation says that the overpopulation of the cats is mainly seen in residential areas and resorts. The cats are often sick, malnourished and hit or run over. Although most people do not experience that there are so many stray cats walking around, the foundation says they can see this reflected in the number of cats that are brought in.

The organization holds sterilization campaigns more often and has been organizing these since 2019. “We work together with Dutch veterinarians on these projects, including our ambassador & veterinarian Piet Hellemans.” Hellemans has been working as a veterinarian since 2006 and can be seen regularly on TV in, among other things, the program 'Dieren op Kantooruur'.

Because there are many cats that need to be spayed, the foundation emphasizes that there are limited places available. People who want to have their cats sterilized can visit the shelter in Bandabou on November 5 and 6.
