PHILIPSBURG - Four people on Sint Maarten were arrested on Sunday for human smuggling. The arrest took place with the cooperation of the Royal Dutch Marechaussee. The suspects transported the victims to nearby islands.
During the police action, a total of 12 adults and a toddler were arrested and handed over to immigration. Sint Maarten is taking firm action against human smuggling. Migrants are often transported under dangerous conditions. Hypothermia and drowning are common. Police are not ruling out multiple arrests.
