WILLEMSTAD – The Curaçao Police have arrested four individuals on suspicion of involvement in a burglary that resulted in the theft of a large quantity of cigarettes. The suspects—three men and one woman—are all of Chinese descent and were apprehended during raids conducted at two local minimarkets.
The arrests are linked to an ongoing investigation into a break-in that occurred on April 19 at a store located on Caracasbaaiweg. As part of this investigation, the police's robbery unit carried out coordinated actions on Friday, June 13, leading to the arrest of two male suspects, aged 28 and 40, at a minimarket on the Weg naar Westpunt around 9:00 AM.
Shortly after, around 9:45 AM, a 42-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man were also arrested at a second minimarket on the Weg naar Montaña. During both operations, the police executed court-authorized search warrants and discovered large quantities of cigarettes at both locations. The goods were confiscated on the spot.
All four suspects have since been brought before an assistant public prosecutor, who has ordered their pre-trial detention pending further investigation.
The police have not ruled out additional arrests as the investigation continues.
