WILLEMSTAD - A former employee of the SGR Group (The Foundation for Disabled and Rehabilitation Care) has been sentenced to prison. The 36-year-old group leader has been found guilty of engaging in sexual misconduct with a 14-year-old client. He received an 18-month prison sentence and was ordered to pay 5000 guilders in compensation.
This sentence is lower than what the prosecution requested, which was 36 months, with six months suspended. The court acquitted the perpetrator of penetration but found the accusation of oral sex to be proven. Additionally, it was established that the group leader had engaged in indecent touching of the boy. The court strongly condemned the man's abuse of his position, as the institution provides guidance to young people with intellectual disabilities. The victim himself has mild intellectual disabilities.
