WILLEMSTAD - Jacintha Constancia, a former minister for the MFK party, was released from the Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou on Thursday last week. She had been serving a twenty-month sentence since December 2022 for her involvement in a face mask scandal during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In 2020, Constancia committed fraud against the Stichting Bureau Ziektekostenverzekering (BZV). She registered as a sole proprietorship with the Chamber of Commerce and, along with her ex-husband Anbertus Schoop, planned to supply face masks to the BZV.
However, an invoice amounting to 365,000 guilders was issued without any face masks being delivered. As a result, Constancia was not only sentenced to prison but also barred from holding any public office for five years.
Multiple sources report that Constancia was warmly welcomed home by family, friends, and residents of Boca Sami, who celebrated her return.
