WILLEMSTAD - According to the Attorney General of the Supreme Court in the Netherlands, former health minister Jacinta Constancia and her ex-partner are eligible for a reduction in their sentences.
Constancia and Anbertus Scoop were sentenced on appeal in September 2020 to 20 and 21 months in prison for their role in the so-called face masks case. They then went to the Supreme Court.
The Attorney General has now determined that it has taken too long for the Supreme Court to consider the case, so they are eligible for a reduced penalty. The Supreme Court must now decide how many months will be deducted from their sentence.
Both were convicted because they were found guilty in a case that involved 365,000 guilders of taxpayers’ money. With that money, they were supposed to buy 40,000 face masks for the health department, but that never happened.
