WILLEMSTAD - Antonio Ribeiro, the former director of the bankrupt airline Jetair, denies to the Amigoe that he is in the process of repaying creditors. He is responding to reports circulating on social media, which claim that Jetair has already repaid certain debts in an attempt to restart the company.
Ribeiro stated to the Amigoe that he has "no clue" where these reports are coming from. He emphasizes that while he is still in discussions with the bankruptcy trustees, those talks serve a different purpose. The former director also dismissed rumors that creditors have already received money.
According to Ribeiro, there simply isn't any money available to repay debts. "Jetair went bankrupt with all its assets," he asserts. The idea that the company has resources to make payments is, in his view, incorrect. Although he remains in contact with the trustees, Ribeiro did not disclose why these discussions are ongoing or what their ultimate goal is.
The reports about a possible repayment began to circulate after claims on social media that former Jetair staff and tour operators had already received payments. Ribeiro has indicated that he was informed about these reports by his office and adds that the trustees are still working on resolving the case.
The former director further clarified that there are currently no plans for a restart of Jetair and that all operations of the airline have ceased since the bankruptcy.
