Former Dutch Premier Suzanne Camelia-Römer to participate in high-level discussion on Caribbean security

THE HAGUE - Suzy Camelia-Römer, a prominent former Prime Minister, Minister, and Member of Parliament, will join a significant roundtable discussion set to take place on April 3rd. The discussion, convened by the House of Representatives, will focus on the pressing geopolitical and security challenges facing the Caribbean territories of the Kingdom. 

Camelia-Römer's participation marks a notable addition to the panel, given her reputation for outspokenness and deep understanding of regional affairs. She has been specifically invited to provide insights into the far-reaching implications of organized crime, narcotics trafficking, and subversive activities. 

Joining Camelia-Römer are several distinguished figures from academia, law enforcement, and research. Gert Oostindie, an esteemed Emeritus Professor specializing in Colonial and Postcolonial History, along with Michiel Baud, an Emeritus Professor renowned for his expertise in Latin American Studies, will lend their scholarly perspectives to the discussion. 

Furthermore, Mauricio Sambo, serving as the Portfolio Holder for Regional Cooperation within the College of Police Chiefs for the Caribbean region of the Kingdom, will offer insights from a law enforcement perspective. Commander Walter Hansen, leading the Naval Forces and serving as Director of the Caribbean Coast Guard, brings invaluable expertise in maritime security. 

Lastly, Simone van der Zee, a seasoned Researcher, Lawyer, and Criminologist affiliated with Risk Solutions Caribbean, will provide valuable insights into the complex dynamics of crime and security in the region. 

The initiative to convene this crucial roundtable discussion stems from the efforts of Member of Parliament Tuinman, representing the BBB party. This gathering of diverse perspectives underscores the gravity of the issues at hand and signals a concerted effort to address them comprehensively. 

As the Caribbean territories navigate complex challenges, this high-level dialogue promises to be instrumental in shaping effective strategies for safeguarding the security and well-being of the region's inhabitants.
