WILLEMSTAD – Curaçao will be part of a multi-year Kingdom program aimed at improving forensic mental health care, including treatment frameworks for TBS (involuntary psychiatric treatment) and placement in youth detention institutions.
Currently, specialized forensic care capacity within the Caribbean part of the Kingdom remains limited. Ministers agreed to continue developing a structured multi-year program to strengthen psychiatric treatment and rehabilitation pathways for offenders with mental health issues.
A program manager, funded by the Netherlands, will coordinate improvements across all four countries. Local project teams will be established to identify priority gaps.
For Curaçao, this initiative could result in expanded treatment capacity, improved reintegration programs and better alignment between correctional services and mental health institutions.
