WILLEMSTAD - An increase in flu cases has resulted in a higher number of hospital admissions at the Curaçao Medical Center (CMC). For weeks, the influenza virus has been circulating, causing symptoms severe enough to require hospitalization.
23 flu patients were admitted to the hospital on Friday. Due to the contagious nature of the virus, the hospital has arranged rooms to accommodate four influenza patients in one room.
Patients admitted to the CMC often have underlying health conditions, such as lung or heart problems. The CMC spokesperson notes that the symptoms of this flu virus resemble those of Covid. The symptoms are reported to be more severe than the flu viruses circulating on the island around this time in previous years.
