First Projects Approved Under Caribbean Slavery Fund

| By Correspondent February 27, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – The first applications under the Caribbean Slavery Fund have been approved, with 24 organizations across the islands receiving confirmation that their projects will be supported. The total amount allocated in this initial round is 240,000 US dollars.

Most of the approved organizations are based on Sint Maarten and Curaçao. According to the fund’s administrators, the grants are primarily aimed at helping organizations professionalize their operations, strengthening their capacity to work on themes related to the legacy of slavery.

The Caribbean Slavery Fund has a total budget of more than 33 million euros and is now preparing for the next phase of funding. A second subsidy round, involving larger grant amounts, has recently closed. In parallel, applications for smaller projects focused on the history of slavery and public awareness are currently being assessed.

The fund was established to support initiatives that address the lasting impact of slavery in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, promote historical awareness, and encourage dialogue within communities. Further decisions on funding allocations are expected in the coming months as additional application rounds are completed.
