First meetings of the Parliament of Curaçao after recess

Local | By Correspondent January 9, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - The Parliament of Curaçao held its first meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday following the recess. The two sessions will focus on the National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK) and the growing issues related to nitrous oxide and vape use.

During the initial meeting, the LOK will be discussed, which has recently faced criticism from the Council of Advice. The LOK, aimed at modernizing gambling legislation, is currently under scrutiny.

On Wednesday, parliamentarians will meet with representatives from the Foundation for Addiction Care (FMA) to discuss the escalating issue of nitrous oxide and vape use, especially among young people.

Recent findings from the FMA indicate that these habits have reached a concerning level of addiction. The PAR and MAN factions have requested the meeting to express their concerns and seek solutions with professionals from the foundation.
