WILLEMSTAD - On Thursday morning, a fire broke out at the northwest section of the Malpais landfill, as announced by Selikor in a press release on Friday.
The waste management company reports that the fire is not yet under control. As of Friday morning, firefighters were still working to extinguish the blaze and minimize smoke emissions. Individuals looking to dispose of waste are being redirected to alternative locations. Selikor assures residents that they are monitoring the situation closely and are addressing the issue of smoke disturbance.
Earlier in April, a major fire caused significant smoke disturbance at the landfill. It took several days to bring that fire under control.
