Fine for license plate behind windshield

Local | By Correspondent August 25, 2023

WILLEMSTAD - A man who placed his license plate behind the windshield instead of on the front bumper has been fined 100 guilders. He was apprehended by the police but refused to accept the settlement offer. Wasn't the license plate still clearly visible? The driver's reason for not attaching the plate to the front was that it broke during installation.

According to the prosecutor, the traffic regulations of Curaçao clearly state that the license plate must be attached to the front of the vehicle and not inside the vehicle itself. The police must be able to see the license plate from a distance and at all times, both during the day and at night.

In addition to the 100 guilders fine, the driver also receives a probation period of 2 years, as a warning. A warning for many other motorists. A significant number of cars in Curaçao drive without a license plate on the front, and there are also cars on the road without a rear license plate. Not only passenger cars but also many trucks and vehicles with trailers do not display a license plate. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, they too can expect police enforcement.
