WILLEMSTAD - A 24-year-old former marine from Waardenburg has been convicted for drug possession in Curaçao. This was the ruling of the military court in Arnhem. The defendant has been ordered to pay a fine of 750 euros. The man was caught in 2022 with two packets of cocaine and an app group on his phone where he and his colleagues discussed in detail the use, procurement, and exchange of drugs. The drugs in question included ecstasy pills, cocaine, MDMA, and 3-MMC.
The discovery of the app group led to the arrest of four additional military personnel, who now face community service of 40 to 80 hours and fines of up to 250 euros. These individuals are former marines aged 26 to 29 from Woerden, Amsterdam, Arnhem, and Zandvoort. They all lost their jobs, as the Ministry of Defense enforces a zero-tolerance policy.
