WILLEMSTAD – The ongoing financial challenges at the Curaçao Medical Center continue to create uncertainty for Curaçao’s national budget, according to the Committee for Financial Supervision Curaçao and Sint Maarten (Cft).
In a letter regarding the island’s 2026 budget, the Cft stated that while some progress has been made toward resolving the hospital’s financial problems, a definitive solution has not yet been finalized.
The government has indicated that a new governance structure is being considered, under which the hospital’s entities would become direct participations of the country.
However, the Cft says Curaçao has not yet provided a clear timeline for the remaining decisions and steps needed to finalize the restructuring.
The supervisory board is urging the government to complete the process as soon as possible in order to reduce financial risks for the national budget.
