WILLEMSTAD - On August 27, 2024, FIFA announced the appointment of a normalization committee to manage the Curaçao Football Federation (FFK), following a prolonged period of financial mismanagement, leadership instability, and suspended football competitions. The decision came after FIFA had issued several warnings since 2023, urging the FFK to address deep-rooted governance and financial issues.
The FFK has been plagued by ongoing crises, including high levels of debt, administrative vacancies, and resignations at the highest levels. Notably, President Ramiro Griffith resigned in August 2024, further exacerbating the leadership vacuum. Despite efforts to resolve the situation, including a new set of statutes and an electoral code, internal conflicts and procedural delays prevented progress.
FIFA's normalization committee is tasked with reorganizing the FFK, restarting football competitions by the end of September, and overseeing elections for a new council by April 2025. This intervention aims to restore order and ensure transparent governance within the FFK, which has been without a functioning administration for over a year.
