WILLEMSTAD - The World Football Federation FIFA has instructed the Curaçao Football Association (FFK) to postpone the upcoming elections. This decision follows issues with adherence to the association's statutes and electoral code.
FIFA and Concacaf have been actively involved in the process, holding two separate meetings on July 23 with both the electoral committee and the appeals committee of the FFK. During these meetings, the current situation was discussed, revealing discrepancies in the decisions and application of the relevant statutes and regulations of the FFK. The appeals committee has yet to make final decisions regarding the submitted objections.
To ensure that the elections proceed in accordance with the principles of good governance and the statutory requirements of the FFK, FIFA and Concacaf have instructed the FFK to postpone the Electoral Congress, originally scheduled for tomorrow, July 27.
This postponement allows the relevant bodies of the FFK, with guidance from FIFA and Concacaf, the time to determine the appropriate steps in the electoral process. It also provides the electoral committee with the necessary time to conduct a thorough analysis and make an informed decision.
FIFA has requested that the FFK forward the full decisions of the appeals committee so that the documentation can be reviewed and further guidance can be provided to the FFK.
