Families Protest in Venezuela Over Missing Migrants Heading to Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent March 11, 2025

LA VELA DE CORO – Dozens of families in La Vela de Coro, a coastal town in Venezuela’s Falcón state, protested this past weekend over the lack of action in the search for missing migrants. The individuals were believed to have boarded boats heading toward Curaçao, but have since disappeared. The protesters are demanding that Venezuelan authorities take serious steps to locate their loved ones.

According to witnesses and relatives, there is strong evidence suggesting that pirates may have attacked the boats. Engines were reportedly stolen, and passengers were robbed. In several instances, boats have disappeared without a trace, and no sign of life has been detected from the passengers.

The demonstration took place in La Vela de Coro, a well-known departure point for migrant boats heading to the ABC islands. Many families in the area have reported that their loved ones went missing at sea while trying to seek a better life.

The protesters are calling on the Venezuelan government to allocate more resources to search operations. There is widespread frustration among the families due to the lack of information and the government's apparent indifference toward this recurring tragedy at sea.
