Local | By Correspondent September 7, 2023

WILLEMSTAD, CARACAS - Marisabel Rodríguez, the former wife of Hugo Chávez, has been given a high-ranking position at the Venezuelan Consulate in Curaçao. The former first lady has been appointed as First-Class Consul-General ad interim.

This position ranks just below the current consul, Marisol Gutiérrez de Almeida, who is the sister of the President of the Supreme Court, Gladys Gutiérrez. Marisol Gutiérrez has served as the Consul-General of Venezuela in Curaçao since 2015.

The exact date of Rodríguez's arrival in Curaçao is not yet known. This announcement comes at a time when relations between Venezuela and Curaçao are being restored, amid growing trade and air activities between the two countries following the reopening of borders on April 3rd.

Rodriguez has remained loyal to the legacy of Hugo Chávez and considers herself "a communicator in the service of diplomacy" after fulfilling communication and diplomatic roles in Turkey, a country with close ties to the Maduro government.
